There’s no shortage of good advice about how to win at authoring. And, by “no shortage,” I mean “entirely too much.” Authors who want more from their careers often get caught up in the fallacy of “more and better.” The notion that doing more (read: working harder) and improving in our weaker areas will blaze the path to success makes logical sense. But it’s seldom functional. “More and better” for career growth can be exhausting.
There’s another problem with “more and better.” It’s not what makes authors reach their goals. Making smart choices on optimal timing is. The most successful authors don’t hold in common that they work more and better (even if they publicly credit their success to determination and a smattering of acquired skills). The most successful authors are excellent critical thinkers.
This workshop will help you think more critically about your author career. It will challenge you to dig deeply into your own goals and avoid common blocks that hold many authors back. It will discuss the set of hidden skills that have nothing to do with more and better—the skills that truly help authors level up.
